All students receive a 20% discount overall for my services in addition to the package discounts. I offer three rounds of edits for the price of one. I only charge for the first round. The second and third rounds are offered to assist you in bringing your book to completion. I also offer formatting and indexing services by request for an additional flat-rate fee. Your three offered rounds include:
Round 1: Main editing – this includes copy and line editing and developing the overall structure of your book, inserting front and back matter for your book-building services, making recommendations in comments to omit material or to add additional material where information is missing. Facts will be checked, sources will be cited (or marked if I can’t find the source), footnotes or endnotes will be inserted.
Round 2: Checking new material – this round is designed to follow-up on any new material added. When I receive your book back for the second round, all pages should be added, responded to, and any new material in your chapters should be included. The idea is to have what should be your complete manuscript before you send it back.
Round 3: Proofreading only – this round is an in-depth proofread of the entire book to make sure nothing was missed and includes grammar, typos, punctuation, etc.

The first round takes the longest because it’s the heavy editing of the entire book. This round usually takes anywhere from a few days to two weeks to complete. The second and third rounds are usually quicker.
Yes, my promise of non-disclosure is included in my contract.
My contract details the work offered, including the name of the book, when services will start, the rate quote and deposit required, non-disclosure agreement, fees, and the rights of both parties. My contracts are sent to your email via Adobe for you to print and sign.
I bill through my Freshbooks invoicing system so your payments are secure and easy. By invoicing my clients through Freshbooks, payments are made via their secure server and I never see your banking or card info.
For any contracts over $500 I require a 50% deposit before I will start your book.
For invoices under $500 I normally give two weeks to pay the invoice in full. For invoices between $500 and $1000, I give 30 days. For invoices over $1000, I will give you 60 days to pay the balance in full.
I calculate my rates mostly based on word count. I will provide a rate quote once I receive your completed manuscript in Microsoft Word format. For an example of a rate quote for a fiction book with 25,000 words, see below:

Developmental editing: $975 (-$195) = $780
Copy editing at discounted rate of $25 for approx. 20 hours: $500 (-$100) = $400

No, I never charge for adding new content for rounds two or three. The only time I will ever re-bill is if we surpass the offered three rounds.
